At their regular November 28th meeting, the Goodrich Board of Education accepted the resignation of Mr. Wayne Wright, effective January 31, 2023.  Mr. Wright was pulled out of retirement in July of 2019 to serve our district in an interim capacity, before being brought on as the Superintendent.  In March of 2020, when COVID-19 impacted our nation, our world, and public education as we know it, this board was grateful for Mr. Wright’s strong leadership, decisiveness, and guidance.

At the same time that Mr. Wright was brought in as interim, the Board of Education began work on a future succession plan for the office of the superintendent.  In the past, the district has hired a firm to assist with the posting, interviewing, and hiring of its superintendents.  This board sees the value of a succession plan that promotes internal career growth across our district, which can improve engagement and the retainment of valuable employees.

This plan, now three years in the making, will introduce Mr. Mike Baszler as the new Superintendent of Schools.  Mr. Travis McDowell will move into the role of Principal of Goodrich High School and Mr. Jesse Nardizzi will serve as Assistant Principal.

Mike Baszler has been a principal for 15 years, 5 of those in Goodrich.  In 2018 Mr. Baszler received certification as a principal mentor and coach through MASSP.  He has served on the MASSP Board of Directors and most recently, he completed the Superintendent Academy through the Michigan Leadership Institute.  Mr. Baszler and his wife Danielle, a Goodrich alum and current Reid Elementary teacher, reside in Goodrich with their three children.

Travis McDowell was hired as a high school math teacher in 2004 and has served as the Assistant Principal of Goodrich High School for the past three years, proving his competency and effectiveness.

Jesse Nardizzi has been a highly respected and much-loved educator at Goodrich High School for 20 years.  While he will be missed in the classroom, the board is happy to have him join the district’s administrative team.

This district has had 7 superintendents at its helm over the last 15 years.  Mr. Wright served longer than any of those.  During his time here, he has righted the ship and it is now afloat.  With the support of the Board of Education, Mr. Baszler and his leadership team will be able to chart a course for our school community and confidently sail the ship in the direction of their choosing.
