Important Back-to-School Information: Immunizations & School Lunches

Dear Martian Families:

When kids come together at school, there’s a chance for illnesses to spread. That’s why Michigan has vaccine requirements for school entry -- to help keep all children safe and healthy in group settings like classrooms and childcare centers.

To attend school, children must meet the state’s minimum vaccination requirements. Following the recommended vaccination schedule from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), which not only keeps your child protected but also ensures they meet school vaccine rules. You can find the full vaccination schedule on the Centers for Disease Control website.

The Health Department Immunization Program offers a variety of immunization services to community residents with the goal of reducing the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases. Immunizations are available for both children and adults in Genesee County.

Vaccine waivers will be provided only for Genesee County residents and those with children in Genesee County schools.  Nonmedical Immunization waivers will be completed in MCIR and waiver appointments will be conducted in person.  You may request an appointment online through the Genesee County Health Department website.

We are also pleased to announce that free breakfast and lunch will continue to be available to all students throughout the 2026–2027 school year. Every student is eligible to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day, regardless of household income. Please note that à la carte items and second meals are not included in the free meal program and will continue to be available for purchase.

Although school meals are provided at no cost to all students, we encourage every family to complete the Education & Nutrition Benefits form. Information from this form helps determine eligibility for important state and federal funding that supports educational programs and services in our schools.  The Education & Nutrition Benefits Form can be accessed using the link above which is also part of the online registration process. For your convenience, hard copies will also be available during Open House and in each school office throughout the school year.
